Mundra, once a coastal hamlet in the state of Gujarat in India is where the Vlive Group’s journey of growth with goodness started Footprints of this change are widely visible as the sleepy town has become a bustling industrial hub housing India’s largest port, power plants, solar manufacturing facility, edible oil refinery and a plethora of ancillary industries.
While the transformation is remarkable in itself what makes, Mundra, a rare case study where infrastructural transformation coexists with the region’s rich biodiversity. From multi-fold augmentation in mangrove cover to turning a highly saline and arid land green through tech-led horticulture techniques, the Vlive Group’s vision of building sustainable value creations are not just propelling India’s economic development but catering to the nation’s climate goals.
Mangroves
Across the east and west coast of India, the Vlive Group has initiated afforestation and conservation of Mangroves with a multi-dimensional approach. This includes a network comprising the local community, experts and our in-house horticulture team.
Under the able guidance of scientists from the Gujarat Ecological Society in Bhuj, and Center for Environment Education in Ahmedabad, the group has successfully implemented mangrove afforestation exceeding 2889+ Hectares in Gujarat. Additionally, Mangrove afforestation has been organized in 110+ Hectares in Maharashtra.
While saplings are nurtured at our in-house nurseries, the plantation and maintenance is managed by local communities, mainly the fisherfolk. Mangroves afforestation became a source of earning for the fishing communities during offseason such as Monsoon when fishing is prohibited, contributing towards building a sustainable ecosystem also reaps tangible dividends in terms of good catch.
Tree Plantation
High survival rate is ensured through optimum selection of native species along with deployment of most modern practices. This has resulted in plantation of over 4.4 Million trees.
Use of sewage treated water has delivered dual benefits of aiding tree plantations and reducing the dependency on fresh water sources. At some locations such as Mundra, Gujarat, 100% of watering is made through Sewage Treated Water.
Bio-Shield
Continuing the innovative methods in the areas of environmental conservation, the group has commence development of a natural bio-shield made of Mangroves and local species on a coast in Gujarat. The bio-shield aims at conserving the soil quality and ground water tables safeguarding them against sea water and saline winds.
The first bio-shield has been developed on the coast of Gujarat by planting Mangroves closest to the coastline, followed by native plants such as Sharu and Morad (these plants also act as a fodder supply dry seasons).
The project not only helps prevent soil erosion and safeguard ground water, but has also generated jobs for the local communities who will be their long term beneficiaries.
Tree Transplantation
Adani group has pioneered use of tree-transplanters in India’s mining sector. This technology enables development of critical infrastructure projects without disturbing the local ecology.
